The Assistant Controller position is a newly created opportunity within a Washington, DC based leading commercial real estate advisory, investment, and technology firm with over 50 years in business and over $220B in capital deployed.  This position will play a key role in supporting a dynamic and multi-faceted organization as part of the accounting and finance leadership team including a combination of accounting staff management and corporate finance.  Based in the company’s primary headquarters in DC, the Assistant Controller role will offer hybrid work from home flexibility and a competitive compensation package including a base salary in the $160,000 to $190,000 range, a 15-20% annual bonus, and a robust benefits package.  Ideal candidates should have 8 plus years of professional experience, CPA, relative leadership experience, public accounting, and ideally related industry exposure within real estate, financial services, or technology sectors.


 


Assistant Controller – Job Description



  • Supports the company's success in a dynamic, privately owned organization by working with the Controller and business unit leadership team in performing accounting, financial reporting, and analysis functions.

  • Provide direct management of a team of 3-4 Senior Accountants including daily work review, guidance and leadership functions, training, mentoring, and performance management.

  • Oversee preparation process of GAAP financial statements.

  • Play a significant role in the completion of all business unit accounting, financial reporting, as well as budgeting and analyses.

  • Own, lead, and review business unit monthly accounting close including journal entries and monthly reconciliation preparation.

  • Support as needed financial and compliance audits as well as income and other tax processes.

  • Provide guidance and support in the management of contract and invoice administration.

  • Prepare and review various financial analyses including contract profitability.

  • Review and participate as needed in other monthly accounting processes.

  • Evaluate internal processes and identify areas of improvement.

  • Coordinate and support completion of special projects as needed. 


 


 


Assistant Controller – Job Requirements



  • BA/BS or MA/MS in Accounting or finance.

  • CPA certification

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience including a proven track record of effectively managing people.

  • Public accounting experience required, ideally a combination of public accounting and internal corporate 

  • Relative industry exposure within the financial services, real estate, or technology sectors whether direct or through public accounting engagements.

  • Ability to work in the DC office three days a week on hybrid schedule
