Due to rapid continued company growth, the Director of Tax position is a newly created opportunity within a publicly traded REIT based in the Hunt Valley, MD area.  With over 25 years in operation, this is an opportunity within a high growth organization recognized as the largest publicly traded REIT in the US dedicated to its healthcare sector with over $10B currently invested.   The Director of Tax position will report directly to the Chief Accounting officer and offer a highly competitive compensation package including a base salary range between $160,000 to $200,000, a 25% annual bonus target, stock award plan, and exceptional benefits. This is an exceptional opportunity for tax professionals at the manager, senior manager, or director level with experience in US and UK tax accounting, GAAP, and knowledge of corporate, partnership, and international tax compliance. This in the office position will work in the company’s US headquarters and ideal candidates will have 6 or more years of professional experience, CPA or master’s degree in taxation, and current or previous related industry exposure within a large national public accounting firm.


 


Tax Director – Job Description



  • Work proactively and collaboratively with the other members of the team, to support the US and UK tax compliance needs of the organization.

  • Manages US and UK tax accounting – ensuring tax expense and disclosures are properly determined and reported in accordance with US GAAP and SEC regulatory rules.

  • Management of tax filings/payments/calculations for company entities including E&P calculation, computershare/NAREIT reporting, US, state, and local quarterly tax estimates, US, state, and local extensions, US, state, and local tax returns and related informational filings, partner tax withholdings from quarterly distributions, and UK PID calculation and withholdings.

  • Management of tax disclosures for Foreign Entities

  • Management of FBAR filings

  • Preparation/review of tax workpapers including review of information needed for tax workpapers (e.g., various allocation schedules and book-to-tax adjustments), preparation and tax workpapers (e.g., tax financial statements on a company-by-company basis), and providing tax workpapers and supporting information to tax preparers.

  • Review of US and UK tax returns and supporting workpapers (prepared by tax preparers)

  • Review tax disclosures in SEC filings

  • Review quarterly and annual REIT tests (US and UK)

  • Evaluation of REIT and tax considerations on new deals

  • Management of relationship with tax preparers and tax budget

  • Management of tax compliance deadlines (filings and payments) for company’s entities doing business in applicable taxing jurisdictions

  • Review of investor tax packages and correspondence with partners

  • Management of partner capital accounts and distribution withholdings and true-ups

  • Assistance with fixed asset management and basis-adjustment

  • Management of supporting tax research and documentation

  • Management of organization documents related to tax compliance

  • Evaluation of available elections and restructuring

  • Consideration of applicable tax law changes

  • Special projects related to tax or data analysis in excel

  • Work with external auditors on quarterly reviews and annual audit requests.


 


Tax Director – Job Requirements 



  • BS in Accounting or similar field from a 4-year college or university

  • Master’s degree in accounting or finance, LLM or CPA preferred

  • 6+ years of Federal and state partnership and real estate tax experience

  • Experience working in public accounting (Big 4 or large public accounting firm experience)

  • Energetic, hands-on, resourceful self-starter who can partner with all levels and functions of the company and takes a consultative and collaborative approach.

  • A team player who can manage cross functional involvement for the purposes of getting to a common goal.

  • Ability to work in companies US headquarters based in Hunt Valley, MD.
